Walkway Over the Hudson
Since August, 2007 the Dyson Foundation has committed over $2 million to help Walkway Over the Hudson, a Poughkeepsie-based nonprofit, complete in-depth
planning and engineering studies necessary to advance its longstanding dream of transforming the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge into the world’s longest elevated public park. Although the Dyson Foundation does not normally invest in transportation infrastructure projects—such as bridges, railroads and trails—the Foundation recognized and acted upon this unique opportunity, which is expected to have a major impact on the Hudson Valley Region. In addition to offering extraordinary opportunities for recreation and public enjoyment, the Walkway will also bring lasting economic and cultural benefits to both Dutchess and Ulster counties.
In addition to grant funding, the Dyson Foundation has been providing staff assistance and other resources to Walkway Over the Hudson as part of this collaborative effort. The Grand Opening of Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park took place the weekend of October 3, 2009.
