Dyson Foundation Board Approves New Grants - December 2011

At its most recent meeting in December, 2011, the Foundation’s Board of Directors approved over $3,700,000 in new grants to 63 different organizations.  Major grants included:


Catherine Street Community Center

Poughkeepsie, NY

Grant Amount: $130,000

Project Term: January 2012 – June 2013

Towards the creation of the Bridge Program, which serves the families of Pre-K and Kindergarten students in the Poughkeepsie City School District by providing students with half-day care and transportation to and from school.

 

Child Care Council of Dutchess

Poughkeepsie, NY

Grant Amount: $100,000

Project Term: January 2012 – December 2012

Toward the Child Care Tuition Scholarship Program for families in Dutchess County.

 

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Dutchess County

Millbrook, NY

Grant Amount: $100,000

Project Term: January 2012 – December 2013

Continued multi-year support for the Green Teen Community Gardening Program, an after-school and summer program for youth in Beacon that focuses on nutrition, agriculture, food justice, financial management, and entrepreneurship.

 

Council on Addition Prevention & Education of Dutchess County

Fishkill, NY

Grant Amount: $150,000

Project Term: January 2012 – December 2014

Continued multi-year support for the Marathon Project, which promotes positive behaviors for youth through distance running training and mentoring.

 

Culinary Institute of American

Hyde Park, NY

Grant Amount: $225,000

Project Term: January 2012 – December 2016

Continued multi-year support towards scholarships for Hudson Valley students who could not otherwise afford to attend the Culinary Institute.

 

Easter Sales New York, Inc.

New York, NY

Grant Amount: $140,000

Project Term: January 2012 – August 2014

Multi-year support for community programs for children and families with disabilities in Orange County.

 

Empire State College

Saratoga Springs, NY

Grant Amount: $60,000

Project Term: January 2012 – December 2014

Continued multi-year support for the Nursing Scholars Program, which provides a low-cost, online Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) program for working nurses who wish to further their education.

 

Grace Smith House

Poughkeepsie, NY

Grant Amount: $100,000

Project Term: January 2012 – December 2013

Multi-year support towards services and activities for children in Grace Smith House’s shelters and in the community who have been affected by domestic violence.

 

Marietta College

Marietta, OH

Grant Amount: $300,000

Project Term: January 2012 – December 2012

Towards the Dr. Jean A. Scott Endowment, which will support recognizing and awarding excellence among Marietta’s faculty.

 

Marist College

Poughkeepsie, NY

Grant Amount: $250,000

Project Term: November 2011 – October 2012

Towards a 2012 reprise of the Many Voices, One Valley regional poll, conducted by the Marist Institute of Public Opinion, which surveyed residents of the Hudson Valley regarding issues, concerns, and specific needs of the area.

Continued support for Scenic Hudson’s coordination of efforts to promote economic development in areas adjacent to the Walkway Over the Hudson in a manner that protects regional environmental and historic assets.
